The Power of Gratitude
Thanksgiving is always a day where we are encouraged to talk and think about all of the things that we are thankful for. While I believe this is a wonderful holiday tradition I strongly encourage my clients to make gratitude a daily practice.
Gratitude is one of the most high vibration frequencies in the law of attraction and when used daily it can yield amazing and even life changing results. To illustrate the power of gratitude I want to tell you a real life example from my own experience.
STORY TIME YALL
As some of you may already know, in 2019 I started my spiritual transformation journey while working with my own life coach after a traumatic break up. She would give me spiritual homework assignments and one of those was to make a daily gratitude practice and to go do a walking meditation in nature.
I remember it was an uncharacteristically warm winter day in Baltimore and I decided to do my walking meditation assignment. I took Ollie, put him in the car, and we headed up to Bel Air about 30 minutes away.
It was an amazing day and I was enjoying my time with Ollie when I put my hand in my pocket and noticed my car key was missing. I tried not to panic, took a deep breath and calmly turned around and started retracing my steps.
Each step I took I reminded myself of the power of gratitude. “I am blessed to have a car with a key to lose.” “I am blessed to have these problems.” “How awesome it is that I have a car.”
As I got closer and closer I started to lose hope of finding my key but I kept thinking “I am grateful I have a car with a key to lose.” I didn’t necessarily believe it, but I faked it until I made it.
When I finally got back to my car my friend was there to meet me. I had called and asked him to meet me just in case I needed a ride. He searched all around my car but couldn’t find the key there either.
“I am grateful that I have amazing friends.” I thought. And I do have amazing friends!
He drove me all the way back to Baltimore to get my spare key. To thank him I suggested we get some lunch and sit outside since it was such a nice day.
”I am grateful for the beautiful weather today.” I boldly proclaimed out loud.
After lunch we headed back up to get my car, spare key securely hidden in my fanny pack.
When we arrived I noticed a note on my car that was not there when we left. The note said “I am sorry we hit your car, here is our number.” That is when I looked down and noticed a small ding on the side of my car.
I took a deep breath and reminded myself “I am grateful to have a car someone could hit.” “I am grateful my car is paid off and I am running it until it dies anyway, a small ding is no big deal.”
In my mind I wasn’t even going to bother calling the people who hit my car since I was planning on running my car into the ground anyway and it was the tiniest ding. But something told me to call so I did.
Turns out it was a rehab facilities van that hit my car and they had already filed the insurance claim. I spoke to the insurance agent and they offered to come out and cut me a check. I thought that was nice maybe I will get 500 dollars or something for the damages.
I was cut an 1,800 dollar check. I was in shock it was that much! Long story short, I used the money to go to Thailand, a trip that truly changed my life.
If this had happened to me pre spiritual intervention I would have lost my marbles, cried, bitched about how life isn’t fair and I truly believe it would not have had the same end result. But with the power of gratitude I transformed what could have been a terrible day into one of the best days of my life.
